Greetings All,

I will summarize our experience with this project. I feel that it has been wonderful to work with the students and teachers from the Ukraine and Argentina. We have all learned a lot and made new friends. Here is our summary:
In our school in Colorado different teachers got involved. The theatre teacher had his classes due improvisational skits with Biodiversity and Habitat Loss being the topic. The Spanish teacher had her classes translate their science work into Spanish so that they could better communicate with the students in Argentina. We had a skype meeting between the school in Argentina and Colorado. Half of the conversation was in English and half in Spanish. Both schools benefitted tremendously from this experience.

It was more difficult to schedule a skype between our school in Colorado and the school in Kiev because of the time difference. We tried to have the Ukraine students return to school at 5PM and have the Colorado students arrive at 8AM but unfortunately this had to be cancelled.
Using the WikiTV site allowed us to watch video presentations of each other so that we could see and hear each other speaking. This was similar to skype without the need to coordinate times.
https://wikitv313.wikispaces.com/International+Challenge+20-20+Channel

Through this project the students gained a great appreciation for their partners. They realized that the environmental issues were similar in each country and that to solve them we would have to work together.

At the end of the project the people in Ukraine were dealing with a political situation that was very difficult. It was nice to see my students in Colorado feel compassion for their partners in Kiev. It was as if they were returning the favor after the Kiev students had been so caring when the Colorado students suffered through the flood. We are indeed all members of the Global Community and will work together to make this a better place to live.

What I took away from wikitv is that it's cool how the three schools can talk about what's going on in their country. It was cool to learn about the habitats and the animals that live there, and not even live in the country and learn about. It was cool to learn about cherynobol and what happened many years ago and learn about it today, I learned that many animals that we can see at the zoo you can see from anywhere. I hope that you can see all of the response and still be safe.
Thanks you

Academically, I learned from this experience a lot more about Chernobyl. I had a basic idea about what happened, but now I have a really good knowledge of what happened at Chernobyl. I also liked learning about the geographic features of Ukraine and Argentina. Culturally, I learned a lot more about Argentina. Our skype with them was really cool and it taught me a lot about what life is like there. It has been interesting and scary hearing about the issues that are happening in Ukraine right now, but it is cool to be able to communicate with someone who is experiencing that situation. Personally, I took away a lot more knowledge, but also more understanding of life in other places. It definitely made me want to travel to some other countries, especially Argentina and Ukraine. Overall, this was a great experience, and I hope to collaborate with people from other countries in the near future.

Talking with you guys back in Kiev and Argentina has been really fun. It is very interesting to see what is going on in other countries from the perspective of someone who lives there. I have learned lots about Ukraine and Argentina that surprised me very much. I think that learning with other people from across the globe is something that very few people get to do, and I am extremely grateful for having this experience and sharing it with everyone back in Ukraine and Argentina.

I took a lot away from the Challenge 20-20 experience. I learned a lot about Chernobyl, pine beetles, flooding, and concerns about pollution and global warming around the world. I also learned about biodiversity and habitats. I also learned cultural things about the countries. With the students from Argentina, we got to ask the students questions about things like food and music. We also got to hear about their school and how it's different from our school. I took away that students from across the world learn about similar things as we do. It was a really fun experience, and I'm glad we got to participate in it.

By participating in WikiTV, I learned a lot about other cultures and what it is like for other people around the world. When I talked and chatted with the people from Argentina and Ukraine, I realized that even though they are far away, they aren't all that different than us. I also took away new information about the events that are happening in other countries. For example, I learned about the uprising in Ukraine, which if I hadn't been a part of WikiTV, I probably wouldn't have been that interested in. Since I had talked with some of the people there, I was interested and I learned more about that. Also, because I was involved with this website, I learned quite a bit more about the environment and how we can help to preserve it. Personally, I liked being a part of the challenge 20/20 channel because it expanded my horizons and opened my mind to things that I hadn't seen or experience before.
Thanks!

After participating in the challenge 20:20 project, I can easily say that I've learned many things. From an academic aspect I learned that around the world different students learn many different, interesting things and I enjoyed sharing what we learned here in Colorado and reading about what other students learn in Ukraine and Argentina. Through all of the topics we spoke about, from mud volcanoes to habitat preservation, I learned so much as a student. This experience also taught me about the many cultures around the world. This made me think of all the diversity in the world and really made me think about the way all of us humans think together about how to make the world a better place, and I found this concept to be truly amazing. The challenge 20:20 personally taught me that the world is so full of different people. Thank you all for this amazing Challenge 20:20 experience!

Hello Everyone,
Academically I learned about Chernobyl and its effects on people and the environment. I also learned about flooding and how much of it goes on around the world as well as its effects. Culturally I learned about what schools, other buildings, and other places are like. It was really interesting to see what schools look like in different parts of the world. I also really enjoyed speaking in Spanish with some students over Skype. I think that it is really cool that we can communicate and learn with people who are in a different country. I have really enjoyed communicating with everyone in Argentina and Ukraine.

Sincerely,
Hannah

From challenge 20/20, I was able to learn things on a personal, cultural, and academic level. Personally, I was able to learn about many problems related to global warming and humans wearing out land, such as the strategy that is being put in place in the Patagonia region of Argentina to help re-fertilize grass. From a cultural standpoint, I was able to learn about many traditions of other countries, such as in Argentina, they drink a strong herbal tea called mate, and they will pass it around in a circle drinking from it until they have none left. From an academic standpoint, I learned a lot about different issues in each country, such as the effect Chernobyl has had on the area surrounding the power plant.

The Challenge 20/20 project was a great experience. I had never done anything like it. I knew that there were problems like habitat loss and biodiversity in other countries besides the U.S. I did not know what they where though. It turned out that they where actually quite similar to the problems in the U.S. But there where problems that where quite different also. Like the problems with there not being enough grass for livestock to fraise and in the Ukraine Chernobyl and the effects.
It was helpful to learn about what other schools are like outside of the U.S. I also go to practice my Spanish which is the language I am taking which was helpful.
When we did the flood project I thought that nobody in Argentina or the Ukraine could really relate. I leaned that in the Ukraine there had also been floods that year. It was interesting that disasters like floods happen outside of the U.S. and we don't hear about them. Also this project help me know what was going on in other countries. Like when the protest in the Ukraine started we learned knew about that quickly. What I found cool is that we could hear from the students in the Ukraine and get there thoughts on the protest.

During the process of the challenge 20/20 assignment, I learned first hand the plants, animals, different habitats, and many other things as well, right from the amazing people that are submerged into that culture and society every day. I also realized how important helping the earth is to so many different people around the world. I gained exposure to many other cultures and customs throughout this project. Some of the photos or videos that were posted made me realize how diverse other cultures are, but in a way, how alike we all are as well. We may not speak the same language, or wear the same clothes, but in reality we are not that different. Near the end of the challenge 20/20 project, everyone in Ukraine was dealing with a country wide disaster. Everyone in their life has had a friend or a family member go through a hard time, and the natural response is to want to make it better for that person. After reading the stories and seeing the pictures of Kiev at the moment, I find that I want to make it better, because I have been able to meet the majority of you, even if it is just online. Everyone here is keeping you all in your thoughts, and I hope this situation is resolved quickly and you all stay safe.

I really enjoyed participating in the 20/20 Challenge. I liked discussing habitat loss and biodiversity issues with students and teachers from Ukraine and Argentina.
Academically I learned about was the Chernobyl Disaster in Ukraine. It was a nuclear explosion that was devastating. Cuturally I learned a lot about Argentina. For example, they can raise animals at their school. The Skype call was neat because we got to see some of the students and speak in Spanish. I realized that even though are schools are far away, they are similar.
I hope the students are safe in Ukraine. You are in our thoughts.

Thank you for this great experience!

I took away a lot doing the challenge 20/20. I really loved it how we discussed our what we learned with each other. This help me understand so much more about our topics. Before this I knew that there were with habitat loss and biodiversity, but I hadn't stopped to think about it like we do in the challenge 20/20. I really enjoyed getting to Skype with everyone and being able to talk with everyone even though sometimes it was hard to understand it was really fun.

Thank you so much for everything,

Through this 20/20 experience I have academically learned many new things about the different countries. I learned about their experience with Chernobyl and that was amazing to see. I learned about some issues with volcanoes and so much more. It was such a great experience to see culturally what the people are going through. The recent issues in Kiev are very scary, along with the people of Ukraine. I hope everyone is doing all right. It was so interesting when we Skyped with the other school because I got to see what their classrooms are like and how different it all is. Personally, I enjoyed this project because it was so great being able to talk about the flood in depth. It was interesting to see how our issues compared to theirs. I enjoyed watching other peoples videos and learning about new things in order to make my own. Being gable to talk to people in different countries like we did was so inspiring and amazing! I hope we get to do something like this again soon.

Hi everyone! Academically, I learned a lot about your culture and learned a lot more than I thought I would take out of this experience. I loved seeing all the videos that you all posted, whether it be of things in your school, or what's happening in your country. Personally, I had a great time doing this as well. It was exciting to make videos, share them with you and to get feedback on them. Overall I think it was a great experience and I would love to do something like it again.

I took a lot away from this challenge 20/20 experience. It was very cool and I never knew we could actually get in touch with other schools around the world. Academically, I learned a lot about the Chernobyl disaster. It was amazing to not only see it on the news, but to actually talk to people that experienced it.
I felt I learned the most about Argentina. It was amazing to skype with them and talk in spanish together. I learned a lot including the school start and stop times, how they raised animals in school and much more.
Personally, I felt we got a chance to connect with other students, just like us, around the world.

The Challenge 20/20 project, while relatively brief, has been extremely eye-opening for me. From the videos introducing schools to the Skype with the school in Argentina, I've come to realize that there is much, much, more to the world than I previously thought. I really think that the effect on me was mostly cultural, as I got to see what other schools and places are like. As someone who likes to travel, I really enjoyed working with everyone and getting to know other traditions and cultures right form Colorado. Personally, I found this project very interesting. Seeing as events and traditions around the world are shared and reflected on, this was, I think, a wonderful way to meet new people and learn new things, while still remaining at Dawson.

Best of luck to those in Ukraine and Argentina,
Matt in the USA

During my challenge 20/20 experience I learned many things. I learned that every place in the world is different and to respect the people and the land. I learned that English is a very hard language, and many people in the world try very hard to learn it for better opportunities, and to be able to communicate with more people. Personally, I learned that happiness and freedom comes at a very high price, and you may even have to die to get it for your people. I learned this from the struggles in Ukraine.

When I heard about the wiki tv project I didn't know what I would learn from it but now I've learned so much. In the beginning in Colorado we had the flooding and we had the school tour. And you guys had much of the same things. The Ukrainian school taught me about Chernobyl and the effects it had. And the Argentinian school taught about how life is like in Argentina. I learned that our schools are different in some ways and the same in other ways. We taught each other about our habitat and biodiversity. My class skyped the Argentinian school and that was fun. I learned about volcanoes and if they are dangerous asleep. Personally this was something that not all schools do and it was fun to participate in this project. I'm sure this project will continue with our schools and the younger kids will enjoy doing it also. Thanks for participating with us it's been fun

Throughout the Challenge 20/20 experience I have learned lots of things about the cultures and people involved. I learned that in Europe floods are something that is more of a threat, while here in Colorado we think of floods like something that could never happen to us. I also learned that Ukrainians and Argentinians are much more aware and caring for their environment than many here in the United States, which is a curse and a blessing. I learned that personally many people in Argentina are nice and very funny, I only figured this out during the Skype talk with them. I learned that most people in the Ukraine know English to a certain degree, and here in the US being bilingual is much more rare than elsewhere. I now know that Argentina is filled with many different and diverse eco-regions, and that some have been threatened by overpopulation or over-industrialization. I learned that Ukraine is still trying to recover from the Chernobyl disaster and that many people still feel its effects today. Ukraine also apparently has problems or at least concerns about volcanos and their eruptions. Ukraine also consists of several eco-regions and is a connection from the steppes of Far Eastern Europe and the temperate forests of the Balkans and Poland.I found that the Challenge 20/20 was a great experience in which I learned about different cultures and their attitudes towards issues that affect everyone in the world, not just them.

I really enjoyed the 20/20 experience like learning about Chernobyl and discussing habitat and biodiversity issues. I enjoyed making videos and watching your videos too. I want to say thank you for sharing all your stories and thoughts with us. I really learned a lot about your countries and your life styles. I thought it was really fun to Skype with you and see your classroom. I hope to learn more about your cultures. I hope to speak to you again soon.

Challenge 20/20 was a very interesting project to do, and I gained lots of knowledge academically, culturally, and personally. Academically, I learned about multiple natural disasters, farming situations, animal extinction, and I thought about the global warming situation and how people can help. It very good to learn these things, because now I know and I can teach others what I learned so that they can help too. It was also very interesting to learn about the cultures of other countries, because Argentina and Ukraine are some places that I don't know much about. It was cool to get to know people there, and learn about things from their point of view. I liked learning more about the every day lives of people in other countries. This experience was also very interesting in a personal way. I liked connecting with people so far away who didn't share the same first language, yet being able to work together on an important matter. Challenge 20/20 was a very cool experience, and I took away a lot of valuable knowledge.

Thank you for such a fantastic experience,

I thought this experience with challenge 20-20 was a lot of fun. It was so much fun to see other countries learn with us. I thought it was cool how you guys were supporting us during the flood. You guys were all so curious to know what was happening with us. Next, I also thought it was cool how we got to learn about your school. We got to share videos with each other and watch them. Everyone at Dawson thought that your schools were awesome. Then, we got to learn about Chernobyl. I found that it increased my knowledge on the disaster that happened there. Last, we got to Skype with the Argentina class. We got to exchange questions with each other and learn about what were doing. I also had the chance to ask you a few questions. Academically I got so many things out of this experience. I furthered my knowledge on things beyond the United States.
culturally I feel like I learned a lot. I learned that the food you guys eat is very different from ours. For example, the Argentinians drink matte a lot. Our school drinks lemonade a lot. I also learned that you guys may do different things then we do. When I am the United States I don't really get the opportunity to learn about another countries culture. I thought with challenge 20-20 it was a perfect opportunity to learn about their culture.
Personally I had a great experience with this. I learned many new things. I learned that I want to visit both of these places. Each place sounds very interesting. I also feel like I developed an interesting relationship with the students from around the world. We shared our knowledge on the same subjects and gave our opinions and differences. I thought challenge 20-20 was awesome and I hopefully look forward to doing it next year.

What I took away from this is that when things happen in other countries they also effect us. I also learned about the different cultures all around that world and that was very interesting to me. I also learned about what is going on in different countries and how different things effect different people. It was also interesting to talk to and watch kids from other countries because they are not that much different from us and it was very cool that they got to show us how they are different culturally and the traditions that they have.

BenDeitsch Feb 21, 2014
Academically, culturally, and personally I took several things away from the Challenge 20-20 experience. Academically, I learned a lot about subjects that are not very big here in the United States, and I learned even more about things I was already familiar with. For example, I learned a great deal about Ukraine through Challenge 20-20. I learned about the ecosystem, the politics, the culture and the people who live there. One subject I already knew a little about, but with Challenge 20-20 I learned a lot more, was the Colorado Pine Beetle. Pine beetles are very destructive to the state of Colorado and it was very appropriate to be knowledgable on the subject. I learned many of the details of the pine beetle including why they have become such a big problem in recent years. Culturally, it was very interesting to be able to talk to people of many different cultures. I enjoyed face timing with the class in Argentina and answering and asking questions. It was also interesting to be able to communicate with people in Ukraine during the riots in Kiev. Personally, it was just interesting to be able to be a part of this project and to meet so many new people and discuss issues. I really had a great time participating in the Challenge 20-20.

jshams88 Feb 21, 2014
What I took away from Challenge 20/20 academically is that everyone learns slightly different things in their school. I found this out by talking to a kid the Ukraine, and he was telling me about his curriculum and I was astounded by how different the things are that they are learning. I thought it was really cool to put that aside and learn about the same stuff with them. This really was an eye open to me because usually my attention would never be on teenagers in Kiev, but it changed that and brought to my attention that they are just regular kids like us.

I took a lot away from Challenge 20/20 culturally. Being able to talk to kids outside of the US was really interesting because you could see things from a whole different point of view. It was especially cool to be able to talk to kids in Kiev with all that is going on right now over there. We are so lucky that they took the time to talk to us and give us a first hand look into what’s happening over there.

Personally I thought this whole thing was a really great experience. I loved talking to all the different kids and being able to Skype them was an amazing opportunity. I’m really glad that we were able to do this because I think it opens up your eyes to things that are going on outside our lives, which I think everyone needs. I hope that the kids next year get to do this with the same or different school and are able to take a step back and look at the bigger picture

Reilly33 Feb 21, 2014
During the challenge 20/20 I really learned academically about the way other students learn in other countries. I found that out by talking to kids in Ukraine and asking them questions how they learn in school and what kind of stuff do they learn at different ages. Culturally I learned they way other countries celebrate holidays for example the students in Ukraine didn't really have a lot of knowledge about thanksgiving. I asked a lot of questions about how they celebrate there major holidays. Personally I learned that every place in the world I very cool in its unique ways. I got to see pictures of schools from all over the world and they where cool in there own way.
Best regards

Academically I got a lot from this project. I found out interesting things about mud volcanoes, and I had never even heard of such things prior to this. I also got a good insight into Ukrainian ways of doing things and your culture.

Culturally I got a lot out of this because like I said before, I got insight into a different lifestyle. I was able to see things from a whole new perspective. I have never really done anything like this before and it was interesting seeing things from a different point of view. I learned about your schools and how your days go compared to ours.

Personally I got a lot because I was able to connect with people in a different place in the world. I was able to feel for the Ukrainians who are struggle with riots and how hard it most be to go through that kind of stuff. It was a very good personal experience and I hope other students get to enjoy it the way I have.

The Wiki Tv challenge 20/20 was a great experience. I learned so much academically, culturally, and personally. Academically, I learned about things such as ecosystems, animal extinction, and politics. This was so fascinating to learn about because here in the US, we don't normally talk about this. It was also really fun face timing Argentina and asking and answering questions. It is so fun to learn about your culture. I learned a lot about each of these countries that I hadn't known before. I didn't know much about volcanoes until Challenge 20/20. Now I know a lot about the different habitats in Argentina. I learned a lot about the Pampas region of Argentina. It was also very fun putting together presentations to show you. It was great to be able to ask you questions personally about where you live and write a discussion about animal over population.
It was a wonderful experience to learn about schools from other countries and how they are different than ours. I found it very interesting that is part of your curriculum at your school to work with farm animals.
I liked how we were able to receive feedback from the other schools and were able to ask questions to people on a different part if the world. It was enjoyable to relate with people far away. It was very surprising that some things we have or do in America is completely strange though it is very normal for us and vice versa.

What I took away from the challenge 2020 experience....

Academically: I learned a lot about topics I didn't even know about before this; like how they deal with homeless animals in Kiev. That really stuck with me because I wouldn't expect that they would kill the animals so brutally and it's really disturbing.

Culturally: no other culture is like your own. Through this program I saw how different Argentina and Ukraine are compared to the United States. Just how each country deals with problems that come up varies somewhat on the culture of the people.

Personally: I just feel like this org ram helped me learn more about Ukraine and Argentina and I am definitely more interested in other cultures than I was before.

I took a lot away from Challenge 20/20. Academically, I learned a lot about the Chernobyl disaster. Watching videos of people who have personally experienced it was much different than learning about it in school. Each video that was posted helped me learn about a certain topic that I did not know about before. I learned about their cultures too. I learned about what there school was like. It was fun to see the difference between their lifestyle and my lifestyle. Personally, I thought it was fun connecting with other schools all over the world. It was fun to see the difference between their lifestyle and my lifestyle. Personally, I thought it was fun connecting with other schools all over the world. I have never done anything like this before. It was a great experience for me. I'm glad I was a part of the Challenge 20/20.

In the challenge 20-20 experience, I learned several things on the academic level. I found out that all classes learn different things. For example, when we might learn about the dry deserts of Arizona, Ukraine might learn about the cold and harsh environment in the northern part of your country. It all depends on where you live. I also learned that Ukraine has a very complex ecosystem. Many drainage valleys must be running properly for the nature part of the ecosystem to function fully.

I also learned several things culturally through the challenge 20-20 experience. I got to see Argentina and Ukraine schools first hand in the Skype sessions that we had. I thought that the schools in Ukraine and Argentina would be very different from schools in the US. I was wrong though, and they were very much the same. Our classrooms like quite a lot alike, actually.

Personally, I thought that this was a very interesting, fun and knowledge filled experience. I really loved how different countries got to come together and see each others cultures, schools, and classmates. This was a really fun experience.

Thank you!

Hello,
From my time looking at challenge 20/20, I have gained an enormous amount of knowledge that I had never known about before.

Academically, I have learned about all of the monuments that you have around Kiev. I have learned a very large amount about mud volcanoes and how they are so much different from regular volcanoes. I have also learned a lot about your economy and how it is different from our economy in the U.S.

Culturally, I have learned so much about the place you live in. I learned that there are very large flood disasters in the Ukraine every year. I have learned what the weather is like and all about what kind of people are in the country Ukraine.

Personally, I have got to make connections with students in the Ukraine when I did the skype call with my class. I now have the connection with other students on the other side of the world. I found it very fun to ask questions to the students in Kiev. This has been a great experience for me and I will never forget it.

Thank You

2013 Challenge 20/20 feedback. Ukraine

Nataliya_Byzova Jan 16, 2014
Hi everybody,

It's the time to summarise our 2013 Challenge 20/20. To my mind it was a terrific project!!!

Biodiversity and eco system losses as part of Challenge 20/20 project has proved to be extremely successful with the Ukrainian students from academic, cultural and personal aspects.

Taking them into cosideration, I would emphasize the enrichment of the curricular contents of education, extending of students' awareness about the surrounding world, the advantage of working in a team and sub teams, high levels of motivation in learning English while researching the problem and looking for solutions, broadening national and international horizons, wiping out virtual borders between countries and making friends via communication and collaboration with the students from the USA and Argentina.

The project has happened to be the first serious environmental investment the students have been willingly involved into at school and in their free time.

I am thankful to my students and the students from Argentina and the USA for their conscientious attitude and dedication to the collaboration and for the fantastic rewarding output which we can observe on Wiki TV.

I am thankful to Mr Meyers (USA) and Ms Prieto (Argentina) for the marvelous time of cooperation and I hope our schools will share more projects in the future.

Best wishes,
Ms Byzova

Hello everyone,
It’s already the end of the first part of our CHALLENGING Challenge 20/20 project
So, here’s our feedback!=^.^=
Our team worked in a project of Biodiversity and Ecosystem losses. We made a research about the Chornobyl Disaster caused by the explosion of the fourth nuclear reactor at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant on 26 April 1986.
Our research included analyzing information about the disaster, interviewing witnesses and experts, discussing the problem. We discovered how the disaster occurred and what happened after the disaster.
Our team worked with the USA and Argentina. We posted information, videos and presentations about the problem on our website. Then we communicated in commentaries below videos to understand our partners’ problems better.
We learned many new different experiences.

‘This project helped us to understand Ukraine’s ecological situation better’- say Katya and Ania.
‘Personally I saw the full concentration and seriousness of working in such projects in American schools’ – that’s Diana’s point of view.
‘I understood the hugeness of the disaster, the consequences of which we can see nowadays’- says Sofia.
I think, it helped us to understand each other more, find some alternative ways to liquidate the after-effect, think about what we can do for the future. I consider that our future mostly depends on the ecosystem’ – asserts Inna.
‘We all improved our English learned a lot of new. It was also great chance to research other nations traditions to start cultural exchanging ‘- thinks Vadim.
‘It was very interesting to work in group with our classmates, because everybody has different mind and different information. I really appreciate working with Argentina and the USA’- says Sasha.
“Finding new ways to solve these problems was a good experience; I hope it’ll help us to save the Earth in future. My mother is happy that our English group takes part in this project, because it’s a good opportunity to develop every student’s capabilities and to broaden horizons.”- Stacy shares her opinion.
“We made our videos for them because we wanted them to know our problems. This all helped us to understand situation in Ukraine. I think that we can save our planet together!” – thinks Masha.

We hope in the future more people will take part in programs like this. It helps to develop you as an identity and makes you more responsible.
We’re grateful to our American and Argentinean partners for the wonderful time together!:)

Hello everyone!
Our 10-A grade want to say thank you for taking part in Challenge 20/20.
I was very interested in your videos such as “Flooding in Colorado”, for example… I got to know something new about Colorado and USA at all. Now I know, that USA are suffered from floods as strong as Ukraine. © Artem Shchepets
It was really exciting for me to take part in 20/20 project with you. Argentina’s project “Local solutions of environmental problems” I liked most. I discovered some new ways to help our environment. © Andrii Kozyrev
We are very concerned about this environmental problem and here are some quotes that represent our thoughts and ideas about working on the project about floods
Today, forests are often used for wood. And large areas of forest are cut down, there is an increased risk of flooding. ©Yehor Akulov
Also, we focused on floods in Ukraine. Zakarpatska oblast in Ukraine is one of the most vulnerable regions in Europe. There is regular flooding, because it is mountainous. In 2008 the floods were the worst for 100 years. Homes and farms were flooded, bridges and roads were damaged.
I am really glad to take part in this project with our foreign friends. And I think, that we can help the environment, if we work together. © Oleksii Skurskyi
In our project we worked together with Argentina and the USA.In my opinion it's very important to exchange information or our own experience. This problem is very actual today for all countries so our discussion is helpful. It was very interesting to investigate this problem and to improve our English © Diana Laguta
Working on such project was both academically and culturally useful because I found out a lot about natural disasters and problems and I also communicated with foreign children.
I am not really aware about collaborating with those teams in the future, but I hope that we will continue working together and abolishing cultural borders between our nations and generations. ;) © Olia Litvina
To sum up, it was very fascinating to take part in this project. Our work was fruitful and gave us lots of benefits. And we fancy continuing working together with foreign students!
Best wishes,
10- A grade team

Dear friends,
This autumn 10's grades took part in Biodiversity and Ecosystem losses project.
We were collaborating with Argentina and the USA. The Students from both countries were posting interesting information about disasters like volcanoes, floods and about Chornobyl eco losses. They were searching for this informanion on the Internet or just writing articles from their own or their parents' and friends' experience.
As for me I enjoyed working on the project for a number of reasons. First of all, I think it's a great first step for me as a public figure in the future. This project encourages students to think logically, to solve certain problems, so it's a good experience.
Also I enjoyed the atmosphere, the relations between students and the teacher, or just between students. Working in a team is the time, when you understand that if you're not the only one, if you're a team - you can find the solution and solve all the the problems! (Olia Khodiuk)
I think this work is very useful for us. First of all is the practice of English.
We have the opportunity to work with native speakers.
Also we do not just learn texts, we communicate as well as in real life: listen to others and speak unprepared.
Second, we really got to know a lot during the research of the themes of 'volcanoes' or watching project work of other students or studying global environmental problems.
And finally, we all learn working in a team.
So I think this work is really important for us. And I hope we will continue working together.
(Ksenia Levytska)
Volcanoes are impressive natural phenomen, but they don't often threaten us. There are about 500 active volcanoes in the world with, on average, 10 eruptions each day. The good news is that most of these eruptions are small. People usually have enough time to evacuate. In earlier times, volcanic eruptions could be truly catastrophic. The most famous example is the complete destruction of the ancient Roman towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum. In the past 200 years, volcanoes have killed more than 1,000 people. I have read a lot of matterials and I have an answer for our question. The world's "sleeping giants" can wake up much quicker than thought. For a volcano to "wake up," this needs to be thoroughly heated by fresh, hot magma rising up from the deep Earth. According to current theory, it would take several hundred or perhaps a thousand years for the heat to distribute through the chamber and make the magma fluid enough to erupt.
(Dima Vikhtiuk)
As for me we got a very good and interesting topic , we learned a lot , for example about the mud volcanoes or Crimean volcano Karadag.
Also, we have become very close teamwork, together we were looking for information and it was really cool.
In this project we have demonstrated themselves as individuals , each of us found something interesting and contributed his bit in this big presentation, so our partners also could learn more interesting.
I am very glad that our school takes part in different projects , because it helps us to develop collective thinking ,together we think like one big system.
(Katia Kovaliova)
I took away a lot of knowledge about the GreenPeace and also about positive and negative aspects of mud volcanoes. Our team had no problems communicating, because we have good chemistry in the team.
This project helped students to find, realize and consolidate information, also maybe take thought about eco-sestem losses, and decide how we can solve the problem.
(Yura Shavrov)
I, for example, prepared information about the Ukrainian sleeping volcano.
I was looking for information about this volcano on the Internet.
Volcanoes was the theme of our class and we talked about it for three weeks.
I loved this project because we worked in a group, we discussed a lot of problems related to the environment.
I loved this project and hope that it was not the last work.
(Daniil Chuzhko)
Personally, I was preparing information about the mud volcanoes.
I was looking for information on the historical and scientific sites.
And I found a lot of new and interesting information.
Here are a couple of interesting facts about mud volcanoes:
Mud volcanoes - a rare natural phenomenon, they are not as common as magma.
Despite the small size, up to five meters in height, mud volcanoes are different impressive depth - up to six kilometers into the vents.
The strong eruption was in 1914: the mud gush to a height of 40-60 meters, and then went down the hill stream width of 120 and a thickness of 2 meters.
(Nikita Popov)

There are about 1500 active volcanoes on the Earth, but only 20-30 erupt each year. If we talk about Ukraine only one can be dangerous, it's name is Karadag .Also another team from Argentina take part in this project and I feel sorry for those people who suffered from the recent eruption there. About three weeks ago we discussed this global problem in our class but there isn't general opinion for solving it. Scientists are exploring volcanoes to be able to predict the next eruption and evacuate people from this area to save their lives . I really enjoyed this project for the experience not only academical but also personal and I did not feel any language barriers while communicating with students from other countries because we have been studying this language for many years. So let's continue working on projects and improve our English.
( Oleksiy Goncharuk)
Even a few parents took part in our project and shared their experiences.
To my mind, this challenge was very useful for me: I found a lot of new information, learned to work in a group and used modern technologies to prepare presentation and video.
I really enjoyed working on the project!!!
( Yehor Plotnitsky)
We really want to have some exchanges with other pupils and we are going to improve our projects.I think that it's the most succesfull project in which i participated. First of all because I was really involved in it. Second thing is that iIve discovered lots of facts.
(Evgeniy Avramenko)

In my opinion it is useful to work with students from other countries and through modern technologies we can work together. As for our team we don't have any problem in creating projects. We have just used Internet, chose interesting information for us and presented it. So our project is a good opportunity to improve our English, speak with students from other countries and discuss very important problems nowadays.

( Tymur Bedukhin)
So, the project is a great experience for our team. Lots of thanks to our friends from the USA and Argentina.
All the best,

We are indeed all members of the Global Community and will work together to make this a better place to live.

warm regards,
Bill Meyers

Global Problem: Loss of biodiversity
1. Direct Attack (hunting, trapping, etc.).
2. Habitat loss (wildfire, human economic activity, volcanic activity, alien species)
a) Deforestation
b) Wild Fire
c) Pollution
d) Expansion of the agricultural border
e) Climate change
f) Extreme weather events (droughts, floods, heat waves and cold)

Solutions:
1. To maintain habitat:
a) Protect current reserves (national parks, provincial, etc.)
b) Produce audiovisual and digital material for dissemination of biodiversity in the country, spread by TV and other media
c) Restore environments (plant trees, make good management of vegetation cover and soil conservation)
d) To minimize our pollution (trash, minimize lob we buy, apply Reuse, Recycle, Reduce - 3 R)

Solutions for the next 20 years:
a) Increase awareness of citizens, governments, schools
b) Connect forested areas through biological corridors
c) Protect riparian areas by creating green buffer areas (afforestation and encircle)
d) Dissemination campaigns showing killing of animals to produce consumer goods.

Working together
• You learn much more when it comes in contact with others that explain a topic
• Communicating in another language made us aware that we need to learn more English; it was a challenge for us.
• The platform organizes work; putting together the videos made us better process content and allow us to more realistically convey what we want to show.
• We conduct video conferencing via Skype and were very productive for them to practice English and Spanish.
• The link with Ukraine made us aware of the risks of radiation.
• We would like to work in the future with other projects. This work was very positive overall.
