Pre-Int. File 1 Writing

. Describing yourself

Hi John,
My name's Nina. It's a Russian name because my grandmother was from Russia.
But I'm Ukrainian and I live in Kyiv, a big city in the north of the country.
I live with my parents and two brothers. I'm 21, and I'm at university. I'm studying computer science.
I'm in my fourth year and I really love it.

I'm going to tell you about myself. As you can see from the photo, I have long hair - it's quite fair - and blue eyes.
I wear glasses but I want to get contact lenses soon.

I think I'm a positive person. I'm quite extrovert and friendly.
My father says I'm very talkative. I think he means I talk too much.

In my free time I love reading and going to the cinema.
But I don't have much free time because I have classes every day and a lot of work to do even at weekends.
I also go to English classes on Friday afternoon.

Please write soon and tell me about you and your life.

Best wishes,

Nina

 A story behind a photo

Isabela_2623_7461.jpg
One of my favourite photos is of a man cooking fish.

I took the photo in the summer of 1994 when I was on holiday in Africa.

We were in Zanzibar, and we were sailing round the islands.
We caught some fish, and then landed on one of the islands,
and our guide made a fire and cooked the fish.

Richie, the guide, was a wonderful person - he became a good friend.
He was also a fantastic cook. I can't remember exactly what fish he was cooking
in the photo, but it tasted delicious.

I keep the photo on the wall in my studio. On a grey, rainy day in London,
I just have to look at it and then memories of a wonderful adventure come back,
and I can imagine that I'm in sunny Africa again.

Dear Oksana,
Thank you for your letter. We're very happy that you're coming to stay with us in June,
and we're sure you'll have a good time.
What time are you coming at Getwick airport? You can get a train to Brighton from there.
Do you have a mobile phone? Then you can phone us when you're on the train,
and we'll meet you at the station.
Could you also tell me a few more things about yourself? Is there anything you can't eat or drink?
Do you smoke? Do you want a single room or do you prefer to share a room with another student?
Are you going to go back to Ukraine immediately after the end of the course?
If not, how many more days are you going to stay with us?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes,
Ann Smith
PS I'm sending you a photo of the family so you'll recognize us at the station.
